Barry Bonds has finally found a team willing to have him. Of course, it’s the same team that’s been putting up with him for years now. The San Francisco Giants signed the embattled slugger to a one year $16 million deal.
As I said before, the Giants were really the only option for Bonds. San Francisco fans are the only fans in baseball that don’t despise Bonds and the Giants players were the only players that would be able to deal with the clubhouse cancer.
The signing means Bonds will, in all likelihood, break Hank Aaron’s all time home run record and infuriate most of the country and sports media while doing it, essentially holding the game hostage for yet another year. Wonderful…
Left handed pitcher, Ted Lilly has reportedly agreed to a 4 year, $40 million contract with the Chicago Cubs. If he passes the physical, Lilly would take the second spot in a Cubs rotation that currently includes Carlos Zambrano, oft-injured Mark Prior, 26 year old lefty Rich Hill, and another lefty, Sean Marshall who will be entering his sophomore season.
Last year, for the Toronto Blue Jays, Lilly went 15-13 with a 4.31 ERA over the course of 32 games started and 181 innings pitched.
The Cubs had been pursuing pitchers Jason Schmidt and Gil Meche as well as Lilly in an attempt to overhaul their rotation, however, Schmidt is believed to be headed to the Dodgers with Meche signing a huge deal with the Kansas City Royals.
